PedsForHSCs is a project aimed at spreading knowledge about the Highly Sensitive Trait (also called Sensory Processing Sensitivity) to pediatric health professionals. The project's founder Dr. Caylin Riley has both a personal and professional passion for raising awareness about the trait, especially within the pediatric medical community.
As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) herself and mother of 3 beautiful Highly Sensitive Children (HSC), Dr. Riley experienced first-hand the incredibly positive shifts in her own family from simply understanding the trait and adjusting her parenting strategy accordingly. The more she learned, the more she saw a need in her own practice -- to educate patients and families, and also to educate her colleagues so they could do the same.
Dr. Riley firmly believes that teaching families about the trait and the unique parenting strategies required to help HSCs thrive is one of the most important and effective ways we can curb the unprecedented mental health epidemic we're all facing. Since she can't bring awareness to every family, she aims to share her knowledge with any healthcare professional who may encounter these special children and their support systems - so that they can not only better serve their patients, but also help those caring for their patients better understand and interact with the most important kids in their world.
Together, we can change lives.
